Green Up Day is a time set aside for townsfolk to pick up trash that has accumulated around the roadways.
The bright green plastic bags, which volunteers fill with the detritus which has built up over the previous year, are picked up by other helpers who direct it towards proper disposal.
It is an annual event to see these bags by the side of the road.
To people “from away” they might appear to be piles of refuse. But we know that they are symbols of people who care about their towns and their state.

ALL THIS WOULD HAVE BUILT UP ON THE OUR ROADWAYS, YEAR AFTER YEAR, BUT FOR THESE VOLUNTEERS.
